The Mayor of Doncaster has been the subject of anti-democratic attempts to undermine his clear mandate.

The complaint is also that the Mayor's plans to eradicate political correctness, within existing laws, will incite hatred.  This is a serious allegation and one which is completely outrageous and unfounded.

This letter in the Doncaster Free Press really says all you need to know about the complaint and the divisive nature of political correctness:

Good luck to mayor

I'm not usually one to write to newspapers but as an exiled Doncastrian living in Carlisle I felt compelled to do so after reading on the BBC website that a formal complaint has been made to the council against Mayor Peter Davies' policies by Chrissy Meleady, who has led several national race equality bodies.

Mayor Davies had been democratically elected by the people of Doncaster. It's not for someone who has not been elected to challenge the policies of those chosen by the people.

Chrissy Meleady would probably describe me as 'mixed race', given I have an Indian mother and an Irish father. Yet Ms Meleady does nothing for me. Indeed, a glance at her CV on the internet merely highlights the impenetrable language against which Mayor Davies rightly rails.

Ms Meleady is, apparently chief executive of something called 'Early Years Equality' where 'early years equality champions the other equality strands and works to mitigate binary and multiple forms of inequality'. What does that mean, exactly, in plain English?

I'm not particularly a supporter of Mayor Davies, but I do believe that it's obscene for millions of pounds of taxpayers' money to be wasted on people and bodies who ultimately serve just to highlight our differences rather than what we have in common as British citizens. If Mayor Davies can even get a debate started about that, then good luck to him.
